Background

ChildhoodW’abati Khilo was born and grew up in La Noscea, part of the Wolf Seeker of the Sun clan. Her father’s name was Khilo, and friends and lovers are welcome to call W’abati just Bati. They were always rather calm and easy-going, not overtly bothered by what happened around them. But they always had a passion for music. Any time around the campfires when his elders would tell tall tales, trills of flutes and beats of drums accompanying, Wabati would always sit as close as they could. They tried mimicking patterns by slapping their palms against their thighs, or tapping tabletops, cups —anything that would make sound. And when they were old enough to speak, to sing, they started to practice melodies the way the older children and adults did.Around 6 years old, their tinnitus started. No one could really pinpoint the source; the hairs on the inside of their ears were all intact so there was no hearing loss. Perhaps allergies? Either way, while it never went away, the light ringing was more clear at night when the bustles of daytime had quieted. As a result, Bati would listen to the ocean as often as she could, found it a comfort. His first instrument was a flute. Gifted by one of his many cousins, it was a tiny, tiny thing they received around age 8. But it was finely crafted and sang beautifully. Bati dedicated much of her free time to learning to master it, and at night used it as another way to cope with the tinnitus. Found it sounded beautifully alongside the waves.Finding One's SelfWhen adolescence started, Wabati found that they didn’t strictly fall into the category of boy or girl. They fluctuated along the scale, sometimes incorporating elements of femininity and masculinity at the same time. Everything at once or maybe just bits and pieces. It showed in how he didn’t like wearing dresses but sometimes skirts were okay. Their feminine chest was great some days, but other times liked it flat. Long hair was lovely…but a beard would be great, too. A sharper jawline? Either way, her family allowed her the space to figure things out and the result was a strong confidence and love for themselves and their body.7th Umbral CalamityBati and their family weren’t immediately in the vicinity of the destruction that happened in La Noscea. They did not live within Limsa Lominsa, but they lived on the nearby land in Middle La Noscea, in Summerford Farms. Their family was safe, yes, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t witness the terror from where they were. And the sound of the land shifting, ripping up, creating that mountain cliff—such a loud boom. Scraping. Screams everywhere. The ocean had never seemed so horrifying before. In the aftermath, during rebuilding and people trying to restore what they could, Bati noticed that they could hear the ringing clearly even during the daytime. Loud, distracting, sometimes almost painful. Panic came with it as well; they knew how to handle it at night, but if they could hear it despite the chatter and music, what would they do?So they threw themselves into their musical studies even further. Picked up the harp, the violin. Found the best vocalist they knew in the clan and asked for singing lessons. And the longer they worked, the more comfort the music brought. And they wondered…if music could do this for themselves, what about other people?Leaving HomeBati made it known well before they left home that they wanted to pursue a musical career. The only thing that changed after the Calamity was that now, this included adventuring. What else would afford him the opportunity to travel to so many places, do the most good. This his family wasn’t exactly thrilled about; music and danger wasn’t a great combo. Still, they saw him off with hugs, extra food and money, and prayed to Azeyma for their safety. So they took an airship straight to New Gridania—they wanted to learn archery—and started their foray into adventuring. Doing hunts and combat took some getting used to; the tinnitus blocked some of the more acute sounds, and sometimes it got so loud it would cause them to stop everything and fidget around, but they learned to adjust around that. And one day they got an assignment, a tip to visit someone over by the Quarrymill. This person turned out to be the former Bard, Jehantel. And after carrying out a small quest for him involving a very enthusiastic Moogle and noticing their penchant for music, Jehantel offered to take them on as their mentor for the Bardic arts. Oh the excitement Bati felt!!!To craft and weave songs, not only to soothe, but to inspire. This is what they had been aiming for and they wouldn’t dare deny herself this opportunity. And so for years he studied underneath Jehantel, learned the power that came with being a Bard, as well as the danger when one doesn’t take it seriously. Jehantel’s story stick…perhaps a bit too well. And perhaps Bati works a bit too hard. But they love the job, love helping out with his fellow adventurers, joining alliances, performing at inns, restaurants, amphitheatres and bars. And everything else! And they even learn to weave harmonies around and within that ringing in his ears. Unique harmonies abound.

About Me

Hello there! I’m Hunk, a 29 year old, black, nonbinary lesbian who’s gradually getting back into RP. I’m very new to the FFXIV RP scene specifically and so am doing my best to learn and observe and adjust.

Guidelines

-21+ ONLY, both IC and OOC. Minors DNI at all.
- RP Tag on? Walk Up & Talk is OK!
- Light flirting IC is OK!
- If you don't get a chance to RP with me in game, you can try to contact me on Discord!
- Not looking for ERP-- it would take us knowing each other for quite a while for that to be put on the table.
- In-Character Romance isn’t completely off the table, but that would take time as well and lots of communication OOC. For consideration for romance, both you and your character must be 25+.
- Speaking of OOC, when it comes to bigger plots and/or heavier content, let’s talk about it! I want to make sure everyone is on the same page as much as possible. Both of us being comfortable is my highest priority.
- No hate of any kind will be tolerated, nor will any fetishization.
-I’m black and so is W'abati; please do not use food to refer to him and his skin tone. (It’s happened to me before. Repeatedly.)
- That being said, my character and I are two different people. Please keep this in mind at all times.

Preferences

Timezone: I'm in EST, but I have no problem working with other timezones! Let's work together to find what works best for us!
Medium: In-game/Discord Para/Mixed
- I’m quite flexible with where and how! Although for long-term threads and/or replies of 3 or more paras at a time, I do prefer Discord. We can always discuss and find common ground!
Looking For : friends, slice of life, heavier plots/themes, casual conversation, silly moments, adventures, fight scenes, lengthy relationships (mostly platonic), rivalries, continuous/lengthy plot lines, developing narratives, AUs and more! I love both planning and spontaneity so let's have fun with it.
Shipping : At present, W'abati is multiship and each romantic relationship with another person's OC will be contained within its own universe. Exceptions may be made if extensive talking and communication is had, but do not go in with this being the expectation.
Moon: Bati is paired to moon so if we've talked before and you'd like to see how he actually looks in-game, feel free to ask!

Bonds

A constant WIP. If we RP and you'd like to be added to this section, feel to ask about it!

Hooks

Bardic Notions
W'abati Khilo is a bard who travels wherever their heart
deigns to lead them. Perhaps she's taken on a commission
as an adventurer and crosses paths with your character,
to help or to hinder. Or maybe the two of you have
teamed up to accomplish the same goal?
The field of battle? An alliance gone wrong?

A Song For Thee
Bati is all too happy to fulfill the musical end of a bard's duties.
They can be spotted holding a plethora of concerts
they have when the time allows. While
most are held in Mother Miounne's Carline Canopy, she's
held performances all across Eorzea and beyond.
Perhaps your character is catching one
of their shows. Perhaps they've attended one
before and are a fan. Maybe they want to hire
her musical talents. No matter the reason, he'd love
to speak music with you.

Step This Way
Bati is a friendly soul who is always open to meet-ups,
either to make a new friend, or deepen a bond that's already there.
Would you like to take a seat an speak?
Or perhaps a cozy area near the wall to spin tales by?
